Merychippus
The Merychippus is one of the next stages after the Mesohippus. Merychippus represents a huge change in the evolution of horses. It still had 3 toes on each leg, but it looked like a modern horse. The Merychippus had a long face and its long legs allowed it to escape from predators and made finding food easier because it could travel greater distances. It had high-crowned cheek teeth, making it the first known grazing horse and the ancestor of all later horses.
